Gamers JP Study
Background
The client is a gaming company. They have developed a game and they would like to localise the game to introduce into the Japan market.
Research Objectives
The objective for this research are:
- Suitability of localisation: To find out if the game is properly localized for natives to understand
- To learn optimisations: Find out what is liked and disliked
- To discover the game’s target audience: Find out who would appeal to this game in order to market it successfully
Approach
The study was conducted through virtual playtest and a short discussion with 5 male mobile action gamers in Japan.
Findings
The client found that
- Overall, players generally expressed enthusiasm for the game.
- Players liked that:
- The game gave them a sense of accomplishment after each win
- Game was easy to understand and learn
- The game’s shooting audios and map visuals were appealing
Application
Based on the findings from this study, our client also had a better understanding of the localisation of their game and used the findings to improve their game before officially launching it in the Japan market.
