Background
The client is a global medical device and healthcare company. They would like to launch a new product for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) testing in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Research Objectives
The client would like to conduct a small scale research to find out if there is a need / market for this new product – a portable blood analyser. The research objectives are to:
- Understand the entire patient journey
- Understand the clinical processes and procedures
- Capture the overall market potential for TBI biomarker testing
- Find out the interest and receptivity of the product
- Uncover any unmet needs
Approach
At the start of the project, we received training from the client’s global product team for the product. In the first phase of the project, secondary research was conducted for us to have an overview of the market landscape. In the next phase, a total of 10 qualitative online interviews (5 per country) were conducted. The respondents include ER Physicians/ Lab Directors/ Specialty Physicians (Neurosurgeons and Neurologists) from a mix of public and private settings in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Findings
From the findings, the client was better able to understand
- The overall market landscape for TBI
- Total Addressable Market for TBI using a Top-Down Funnel Analysis Approach
- Patient journey + Treatment journey, including the difference between public and private settings
- Interest and receptivity of their product
- Strengths and barriers to adopting the product
- Acceptable price point for their product launch, where there is also a big disparity between public and private settings.
The client conducted this research in other countries including US. Hence, they would be combining the results from Singapore and Hong Kong with the results from the rest of the world to find out how to improve their product before its launch.
